It’s time for another travel post, friends! I recently took a trip to Wilmington, Delaware for a fun little getaway and had a beautiful 2-day vacation planned; unfortunately, due to a personal emergency, I had to cut things short. It was a bit of a bummer, but now I have a great excuse to head back sooner rather than later.
Breakfast at Spark*d
I started my day off at DE.CO! Located at 111 West 10th Street, this food hall has everything from pho to Indian food, however if you’re looking to get your brekkie on, you only have one option. Lucky for all of us though, that one option’s pretty awesome!
Founded by Chef Leah Steinburger, Spark*d’s known for their baked goods and coffee. They’re the only location in Wilmington that has La Colombe’s draft latte on hand so you definitely want to get a cup while you’re there.
Being the fatty that I am, I got a house made bagel sandwich with egg and crispy bacon along with a serving of their vegetable quiche. Both were tasty, but I definitely recommend getting the sammie. What can I say? I’m a sucker for carbs, and who wouldn’t want to enjoy that hearty goodness!
Cocktails at Le Cavalier
I’ve been spoiled as of late because I got to enjoy cocktails AT A BAR during my last trip as well. Twice in the span of two weeks? Definitely not mad about it. Located inside the historic Hotel Du Pont, Le Cavalier’s run by chef-partner Tyler Akin. I’ve heard incredible things about his food so I definitely plan to come back ASAP.
For this trip, I had the pleasure of trying bar director Robert Kidd’s cocktails and had a truly wonderful experience before heading to dinner at Bardea. The ambiance was moody but welcoming, and it was the perfect way spend the evening. Le Cav has a gorgeous bar, and their drink menu was quite sophisticated so definitely make sure to stop by and imbibe.
Dinner at Bardea
Words can’t even begin to express the magic that was Bardea. I’m writing a dedicated feature on their restaurant soon – follow Nomtastic Foods to stay in the know – so I don’t want to give too much away, but this was easily one of the most amazing dining experiences I’ve ever had.
They were a James Beard semifinalist for best new restaurant in 2019 so I walked in with super high expectations, and their food went above and beyond any expectation I had. I literally “mmm-ed” and “ahhh-ed” after every course, and I’d more than happily drive to Wilmington JUST to have dinner here again. It was only about an hour and 20 minutes so it’s an easy drive, friends – highly recommend!
Located on 620 North Market Street, must try dishes include their burrata “al taglio,” their potato tartlet, their avocado, their madai snapper tartare, their wagyu pizzaiola, their oakwood tart, and god, the list just goes on and on and on. My manfriend and I had so much food that night, and everything was straight fire. Really.
Their feature will be up on NF either Thursday or Saturday so keep an eye out. Until then, here’s a tiny sneak peek of what’s to come! And for the love of god, if you live near Wilmington, join them for dine-in or get their food to go. I promise your stomach will thank you.
Netflix & Chill
After dinner, I went back to my amazing one bedroom at Hotel Du Pont and watched a movie while editing pics. If you follow me on instagram, you’ve probably already seen the room, but here are photos of my luxury suite’s layout in case you missed it.
There’s just something so regal and majestic about this historic hotel. It oozes elegance, and you’re feel like royalty while you’re there. With everything from custom furniture to deep soaking tubs, you’ll be more than comfortable with your master bedroom and bath.
Each suite also has a separate living/dining area in addition to a guest half bath, and amenities include wifi, a safe, two flat screen TVs, a coffee maker, complimentary water, a minibar and room service. They’re also pet friendly so that’s a big plus for all you furparents out there!
