It’s been a while since I last ventured out, but I recently had the opportunity to check out Artechouse’s new exhibit with my manfriend, and it was an absolute blast! Hanami: Beyond the Blooms was breathtaking, and we were totally blown away.
“A centuries-old Japanese tradition of blossom viewing takes on a whole new abstract interpretive meaning as hand-made ink illustrations by Yuko Shimizu are transformed digitally to follow vibrant cherry blossom flowers on an exciting and interactive journey through land, sea and air.”
I’ve been really apprehensive about going out. I’ve been quarantining as much as possible, and I only leave home if I absolutely have to. The shoots you see me at on IG stories are socially distanced or take place at closed restaurants so there are very few people, and we’re 6 feet apart, all wearing masks.
Artechouse did an awesome job making us feel safe. Payments are only accepted online or by card to limit social interaction. Sessions take place every 30 minutes, and their space is limited to 25 people max so you have to sign up online and be punctual.
Everyone’s required to bring a face cover or mask, and there are hand sanitizing stations all over along with directional signage within the space. They do a professional pre-opening cleaning every day along with sanitizing sessions every hour to make sure their space is as safe as possible.
There are four different rooms on site, all with super unique and interactive installations that explore the role of science in art and technology.
Tickets are available online for a discounted rate of $19 a person. Children ages 4-14 get in for $12, and students, seniors (65+), military and first responders can get in for $15 a pop. For those of you looking to attend as a family, they offer a special package for 2 adults and 2 kids for $45.
If you’re looking for something fun to do in the DC area, I highly recommend checking them out. And as always, if you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always happy to hear from you guys!
