It very much feels like I’m back to quarantining again. My mom’s been visiting for the last week and a half – and she’s immunocompromised – so we’ve been getting takeout and spending a lot of time hanging out at home. I’ve been masking up hardcore for work and doing the majority of my photoshoots outside. Luckily, it hasn’t been too, TOO cold.
I’m always looking for fun things to do with her so when I found out THB was offering a build-a-bagel kit, I got one ASAP. The kit’s priced at $12.95, and it comes with 8 uncooked bagels, a 1/2lb of cream cheese, and a variety of bagel toppings, depending on which ones you choose.
There’s a small upcharge for certain flavors, but it’s still super affordable. This was my first time trying THB, and they were solid, especially when enjoyed straight out of the oven. My favorites were garlic, everything wheat, and egg. Next time I want to try chocolate chip and asiago!
So, here’s how it works. They give you a big box with two containers of uncooked bagels (4 each) along with your toppings of choice – I recommend saving your tin containers and reusing them! Apparently, the dough’s only good for 2 days, 3 days max. Cooking them’s extremely easy since you don’t need to create the dough from scratch.
Simply preheat your oven to 475 and while you wait, boil a huge pot of water. Throw in 3 bagels at a time and cook for 45 seconds. Then, coat them with your topping of choice before adding them onto a sheet pan with a piece of parchment paper.
All 8 will fit on one sheet, and they don’t get crazy big so you don’t have to worry about running out of space. Then, throw ’em in for a quick 15-20 bake and enjoy with your cream cheese of choice.
My mom loves veggie cream cheese so that’s what I got for us! I liked that it had cubed cukes inside – it was low key refreshing and added a nice texture to said carby goodness. Tomorrow, we’re heading to Centreville for more eats.
