I am beyond thrilled to tell you guys about my latest adventure. My friend Melanie (aka @labellemel) and I recently ventured out to Shenandoah County, Virginia to get our glamp on at Bally Brook Farm.
Neither of us are especially outdoorsy so we were a bit apprehensive, but it ended up being a very luxurious experience. I’d go back in a heartbeat, and I highly, highly recommend you guys book a weekend as well.
Here’s a shot of our accommodations. This 20 by 13 foot tent was MASSIVE, and it was placed upon a custom platform that the owners built themselves. They had solar powered string lights above our bed, and there were plenty of lanterns inside for us to use.
We shared a queen sized bed with a pillow-top mattress with blankets as soft as can be. They had a basket of extra throws available as well in case we got chilly! And I really loved that there was a net to protect us from mosquitos and other insects. I don’t know what it is about me, but I always get eaten alive. I’m proud to report that I left without a single bite though!
Although the weather was less than ideal, we still had a wonderful time, and it was lovely falling asleep to the pitter patter sound of the rain. It was just so peaceful, and I loved waking up to the gorgeous view of the farm. We were surrounded by greenery, and neighboring cows would mosey along by.
Breakfast is included with your weekend booking, but you also have the option of purchasing add ons. Said “farm to tent” meal is delivered fresh each morning, and you’ll use the provided iron skillets over your fire to cook ’em. Since it was rainy, the owners put together a beautiful package for us to enjoy in the comfort of our tent.
How gorgeous is this spread? There was fresh coffee – that we brewed using the french press they lent us – all the makings for a delish yogurt parfait, avocado toast, mini blueberry pastries, fresh berries, and two huge carafes of orange and apple juices. They were even kind enough to include snacks for the day (trail mix and apples for both of us)! So, so thoughtful.
Let’s take a closer look at their bath! As you can see, there’s a private bath and shower, complete with a hot water heater. Their shower’s custom built, and that’s an ECO composting toilet you see there. They offer organic and 100% biodegradable bath products, natural cotton towels, and there’s even a dog wash station for your furbabies.
If you want to bring your pup/s along, it’s $20 a night, and you have the option of getting their ruff glamping package to reallllly spoil your floof. It includes a dog bed, toy, treats, and more! I originally planned on bringing Daisy with me, but due to her diabetes, I thought it was best for her to stay home since I found a reliable sitter last minute.
On our last evening there, mother nature smiled upon us, and we got to enjoy a beautiful fire on our deck. There was a complimentary s’mores kit inside so you KNOW we treated ourselves to some dessert under the stars. Because what’s better than eating a melty marshmallow treat, listening to the song of the cicadas while enjoying the sky? Not much, friends, not much.
For those of you interested, they’re currently booked solid for the Spring, BUT weekend spots are available for Fall, and they have some availability from June-August! Get in touch by emailing hello@ballybrookfarm.com for an unforgettable experience, and come thank me afterwards. Whether you’re looking to spoil your SO or just want to get some R&R solo, Bally Brook Farm is the word.
A big thanks to Melanie Yu for today’s photography (all of the tent/architecture shots are hers, the food stuff’s mine =P)!
