Friends, stop everything you’re doing and head to Ivy City Smokehouse stat. You need to enjoy their fish board right about now because life’s too short, and it’s my job to help you indulge. I haven’t shared my Michelin post with you guys yet so you don’t know deets, but it’s my goal to visit every star and bib gourmand in the DC area this year.
Located in Ivy City (duh), this casual tavern is everything you never knew you needed. The smokehouse board I’m talking about is $26, and it comes with all five of their in-house smoked fish along with two bagels (choose from plain, sesame, everything and pumpernickel), chive cream cheese, tomato, red onion, cucumbers, capers, and horseradish sauce.
Can we just talk about how gorgeous this board is though? It’s home to their salmon candy (Pacific Northwest style honey hot smoked salmon), traditional salmon, pepper salmon, North Carolina rainbow trout and Great Lakes whitefish salad.
Call me basic, but my favorite was the “regular” smoked salmon. Don’t hate me for loving bagel and lox! It’s honestly the freshest salmon I’ve ever had, and I can’t recommend it enough.
If this is too much food for you, you always have the option of purchasing some to go at their market downstairs. They have all kinds of noms (everything from caviar to shark loin) so take a look see. You can also browse their selection online as well – click here to see what’s available.
Now, in addition to this beautiful board, another must try here is their fried shrimp! You get 12 big pieces for $23, and they’re beautifully cooked; think lightly breaded and fried to perfection. This entree comes with fries and slaw so it’s not the healthiest plate you could eat, but that’s what splurge days are for.
So, what do you guys think about today’s nom feature? Is this board calling your name, too? Let me know by leaving a comment below, and make sure you check back soon for fresh, new content.
