Sorry guys, I was supposed to share this at the end of last month, but things got crazy. October was super eventful though so today’s recap should be fun. There’s one ginormous thing I can’t share yet, but I’m allowed to announce it in January so stay tuned.
Modeling for The Codex Club
You’ve seen images from this shoot on instagram already, but there’s a bunch I haven’t posted yet. I had a blast collaborating with Jan Galvan, Valerie Hammer, and The Codex Club. Talk about a dream team! It’s no secret that I love Jan’s photography, and Valerie’s a makeup god so keep an eye out for more bomb content coming your way.
See a few more looks from the shoot by clicking here – I showed y’all how to wear a sexy maxi dress four different ways yesterday so take a look. When Andrea Chen (the owner of CC) reached out, I was thrilled because I love her and her store so much. She’s passionate about local artisans, and she has impeccable taste so I guarantee there’s always going to be something you love available for purchase.
She did an amazing job styling looks for the shoot, but she’s a Parsons (!!!!!) graduate with 10+ years of experience in design and marketing so that’s to be expected. Make sure to stop by and say hello the next time you’re in Remington. Go browse and then grab a bite to eat a R. House.
Exploring VA Wine Country with 3LPR
I had a blast exploring Loudoun County with some of the coolest bloggers in the area. A huge thanks to 3LPR for setting up such a magical day. I’m sharing a more detailed post on here soon, but in the meantime, here’s a short synopsis for you guys.
We started at Doukenie Winery and enjoyed brunch next to a gorg lake before heading to Walsh Family Wine to tour their vineyards and see their wine-making process up close. We ended the day at Petite LouLou with tea, crepes, sandwiches and pastries. So much fun. I learned a ton about vino, and I’m definitely planning to go back. Note: this blurb’s photography was taken by the amazingAlicia Bruce.
Attending NKOTB
I’m not sure if you guys follow my food blog, but I had the opportunity to check out New Kitchens on the Block in late October thanks to Nevin Martell. I had a GA ticket which gave me access to 10 of the hottest restaurants opening in 2020.
They’re planning another in the Spring so mark your calendars. The event takes place in Mess Hall, and the $85 ticket’s well worth the price since you get unlimited food & drink. My favorite bite was Bubbie’s “chicken” slider, and La Famosa killed it with their drinks. Everything was good though so keep your expectations high and go hungry.
Meeting Celebrity Chef Todd English
When you get an invite to MXDC, you go. When you get an invite to MXDC and you find out Chef Todd’s cooking, you flip out and then go. Ha! In all seriousness, I had a blast celebrating the Day of the Dead there.
The food was super creative, and I enjoyed sampling all the noms. We had everything from caviar nachos to rockfish ceviche, and Chef Todd personally made us shabu shabu tacos. I wasn’t sure how I’d like the combo, but it worked! They had special cocktails for the occasion, and the flan was to die for. Have any of you guys been?
Trying Rose’s Luxury for the First Time
I can’t even begin to tell you guys how much I enjoyed Rose’s Luxury. I’ve been drooling over their food pics on instagram five-ever so I’m really glad I got to go with dining partner-in-crime, David Ortiz aka @dcfoodfreak. Our dinner exceeded my expectations, and it was easily one of the best meals I’ve ever had.
We went with their tasting menu, which was $85 per person, and it was 200% worth the money. You get 8-9 dishes to share, and you can request certain items from their menu. My favorite plates were as follows: their crispy cauliflower, their lychee salad, their cacio e pepe, their crispy catfish, and their coconut caviar ice cream. I know that’s a lot, but everything was just so freaking good.
Now, it’s a big deal that I listed fish up there because I don’t really eat it often. I had a terrible experience with it back in the day, which is why I cut it out of my diet. I’d be thrilled to have this any day of the week though. Conclusion? If you’re looking to splurge on an unforgettable meal, head to Rose’s. Everything from service to ambiance is fire, and you’ll even enjoy the soap in their bathrooms, ha.
Judging the Gold Cup with Friends
Oh man, this was one uber dramatic day. I was really looking forward to judging the tailgate and hat competitions with my girl La Belle Mel, but it turned out to be crazy for all the wrong reasons. It started off tame though!
We drove, got lost, found the venue, judged, then found out Mel’s foster dog ran away. Obviously that was more important so we dropped everything and left. As we were driving back, Mel looked over to me and said, “oh shoot, I’m out of gas.”
Now, when people usually say that, they have a good 30-50 miles left. I glanced over and saw that her gas tank was literally 0. Anxious Kim was freaked the eff out, but we somehow made it. It’s funny now, but I was legit scared at the time. I was worried the car would stop running in the middle of the road! I won’t ever forget Mel’s response though. “Kim, relax, I’ve driven on -5 before.” Lol, I love her. Anywho, it was an action-packed day that I won’t forget. And the furbaby was safe and sound so the story has a happy ending!
Celebrating Sababa at Sababa
I finally got to meet the amazing Adeena Sussman in person, and I finally got to try the food at Sababa so it was a great night for more reasons than one. Justin (aka @dcfoodporn) and I went for dinner to celebrate her new cookbook, Sababa, and the food was sublime.
Chef Ryan makes some of the best hummus I’ve ever tasted, and I can’t wait to try his menu the next time I’m in town. Unfortunately, I had to leave early for another engagement, but I have no doubt the rest of the food was exceptional.
Alright friends, that’s it for today’s recap. I hope you enjoyed reading about my adventures! I’m traveling quite a bit for November, so hopefully this month’s will be extra fun. Make sure you guys follow me on instastories to stay in the know, and check back every Monday, Thursday and Saturday for fresh new content on Sensible Stylista.
