I am a woman of many skills…but cooking is (very unfortunately) not one of them. Same with my dad. He may be a world champion tae kwon do grandmaster, but the only chopping he does is in his dojang. Please tell me you at least cracked a smile at my uber cheesy joke.
So, for Father’s Day this year, I’ll be gifting him this very, VERY dope sous vide system from Anova. I know you’re not supposed to open gifts, but I needed to test everything out myself to make sure it’d be easy for him to use.
He’s very health-conscious so I know he’s gonna get serious use out of this baby. With Anova Precision Cooker Nano, your proteins and veggies can hang out in the sous vide bath until you’re ready to eat. And no, the extra cooking time won’t affect the quality, and there’s no chance of overcooking so expect perfect, predictable results every time.
To start, let’s talk about their vacuum sealer. Love, love, LOVE this kitchen gadget. It has a high-powered vacuum with 6 different modes for all kinds of food. Said modes are as follows:
- Vacuum and seal
- Moist
- Dry
- Seal
- Pulse Vacuum: for delicate food like bread and fruit
- External Pulse Vacuum: comes with a hose to seal vacuum food containers.
The handle lock allows for one-handed bag vacuuming and sealing, and it can handle up to 100 continuous seals in a single sesh. Is it strange that I thought this was SO fun to do? I now get to vacuum seal everything.
For today’s post, I decided to cook some chicken. I threw in a few herbs and lemon slices and threw it all in the Precision Container to test things out.
And the container has a raised base for countertop protection and comes with a silicone lid and a stainless steel top rack. It’s compatible with all Anova Precision Cookers, and it holds 12L.
The cooker is secured on the back, and it’s so, SO easy to use. You just screw it on and download the app to handle everything via bluetooth. It works with any pot to heat and circulate water, cooking your food evenly to a precise temperature for foolproof results.
The Anova app has more than 4,000 recipes, so it’s easy for novice cooks. Other noteworthy features, it’s small enough to fit in your kitchen drawer, and the bottom comes off with ease so cleaning is not a hassle.
Set your time and temperature manually or rely on the app for assistance. I chose a simple chicken breast setting, and my phone alerted me when it was done! It cooked for an hour on 150 degrees, and I had a blast from start to finish. I know that sounds nerdy, but I felt very industrious!
Afterwards, I used tongs to take my chicken out, opened said bag, and sliced it up for a late lunch. Sous vide chicken is so, SO juicy. It’s honestly incredible how easy and delicious it is, not to mention healthy.
This is by far the best kitchen gadget I’ve ever gotten, and I can’t recommend it enough. So whether you’re looking to treat dad (…or treat yourself), it is totally worth the investment.
