Oh man, you guys don’t know what you’re in for. After hearing my friends rave about Little Miner Taco for the umpteenth time, I decided to go and see what the fuss was all about. Welp, consider me impressed. Like the title says, the hype is oh so real.
They recently opened a 3rd location at Pike & Rose (inside bomb Asian eatery, The Block), and you absolutely need to go and experience their goodness firsthand. I took my mom, and we got a ton of food to go because we’re not comfortable eating out yet. I wasn’t sure how everything would travel, but the food held up surprisingly well, and it was all delicious.
Must try dishes include their birria de res, their lobster quesadilla, their street corn, their birria ramen, and any of their tacos. They’re famous for their birria de res so I got a set of 3 for $15. They were stuffed with Monterey jack cheese, green onions, and the most tender braised beef. The exterior was cooked to crispy perfection, and the accompanying beef consomme was as flavorful as can be. Highly recommend. Go wild, friends.
Their lobster quesadilla was my mom’s favorite dish. It was stuffed with huge chunks of lobster, peppers, onions, oyster mushrooms, and jack cheese, then drizzled with a scrumptious sriracha aioli and served with slaw.
At $21, it doesn’t come cheap, but trust me when I say it’s worth the splurge. They’re heavy handed with the filling so you definitely get your money’s worth! The slaw was also a welcome addition – it added wonderful texture and the acidity complemented the savoriness of the dish.
If you know me, you know that I’m all about elote, and holy guacamole, their street corn was straight up obscene. I could eat this everyday for the rest of my life and be happy. Think roasted corn with onions, scallions, cotija cheese, chives and chipotle aioli mixed together for the ultimate flavor party. I know some prefer corn on the cob, but I 200% like this more. It’s easier to eat, and I don’t have to worry about getting kernels stuck in my teeth.
Now, onto one of their Block exclusives: Birria Ramen. For $15, you get a ginormous bowl stuffed with egg noodles, radish, corn, cilantro, onions, chives and copious amounts of beef in the consomme broth they’re so famous for.
I absolutely loved the texture of the noodz, but the flavors were a bit strange for me, at least at first. It’s one of those dishes that grows on you over time. I found myself enjoying it more and more with each bite, and I actually ended up eating it all.
It was strangely addicting, and I’d totally get it again. They do have a second option that sounds more like my jam though! Their Cochinta Pibil Ramen has the same noods and base, but it contains cochinita, chicharonnes, and habanero pickled onions. Which combo sounds better to you guys? Let me know by leaving a comment below.
Last but not least, their tacos. Must try options include their al pastor, their chicken and their bulgogi beef. My favorite taco places in the DMV are as follows: Taco Bamba (DMV Area), Cocina Luchadoras (Baltimore), Clavel (Baltimore), Mezcalero (DC), andddd I can now officially add Little Miner to the list.
Alright friends, I hope you enjoyed my latest post! I know I’ve been talking about food in my quarantine adventures series, but it’s been a minute since I last did a dedicated feature so I figured I’d change that. Curious to hear what you thought of Little Miner Taco. What looked yummiest to you? Do you have a favorite taco place in the DMV? If so, what is it?
And one last thing before I leave y’all, for those of you interested, they also have a brick and mortar in Brentwood, MD, and their taco truck travels all over the DMV! Their schedule changes weekly though so make sure you check their twitter to stay in the know. For more on delish eats, click here; to see more from my DMV adventures, make sure to browse this tab.
