Located in the gorgeous town of Harpers Ferry, I recently stayed at the most beautiful historic farmhouse. Run by airbnb superhosts, Leigh and Corey, this 2-day getaway was an absolute dream.
If you follow my instagram, you know that I’ve been going on fun but safe trips that are within driving distance. This spot was only about an hour away from me (the DC area), and the whole trip was perfect.
The hosts claim that their c. 1805 Victorian/log farmhouse is “a luxury oasis that’s the perfect mix of old and new,” and I support that statement 200%. It’s 2 minutes from the Appalachian Trail and 5 minutes from Harpers Ferry National Park, which is awesome.
I would’ve loved to spend some time outdoors, but it was snowing heavily during my trip. That didn’t stop me from heading to one of my favorite wineries in the area though! Not gonna lie, I spent the majority of my time sitting by the fire and enjoying vino while watching the snow fall. More on that later though.
The home has wood floors and log walls, and each room is impeccably decorated. They’ve been featured in various magazines and publications so you know they’re the real deal, like I was high key shocked when I walked in. I heard from a friend that their farmhouse was amazing, but I didn’t know to what extent.
Here’s a shot of my favorite room in the entire house: the cabin room/den. It was apparently the heart of the original log cabin from 1805, and it has a queen sleeper sofa along with a bar cart, a wood burning stove, and a cute little reading nook!
The kitchen’s fully equipped with new appliances, and the dining area has a huge round table that seats 10 in front of a woodburning stove. They have everything you need there, with everything from a blender to a Nespresso machine.
You can tell that the owners are art lovers because there’s everything from vintage posters to original paintings. There were four bedrooms total, each with an individual vibe, but I ended up staying in the master bedroom because of the king bed. The 3rd floor bedroom was SO cute though – I loved the crystal chandelier and fun wallpaper.
I didn’t ask friends and family to come with this time around because of everything going on in the world, but I can definitely see myself back with a group. I think spring or summer would be amazing, especially with the huge grill and fire pit out back. They also have a basketball hoop along with horseshoes, cornhole and a hammock.
Located next to the farmhouse is the barn studio. Complete with a billiards room and 700 sf studio apartment on the second floor, it’s great for couples or an individual/s who want to social distance.
In terms of food, I got 3 huge meals that lasted me the entire time. I got Harpers Ferry 1840, Mountain View Diner, and Popeyes. Loved the burger I got from HF – it was cooked beautifully and topped with bacon jam, gorgonzola, arugula, garlic aioli and served with home fries. The chicken and dumplings wasn’t my jam, but that’s just my personal preference.
Mountain View Diner was breakfast (and lunch…and breakfast the next day). This was about a 10 minute drive from the farmhouse, and they’re apparently known for their biscuits. I got a veggie omelette that came with freshly baked carbs and home fries. I didn’t want to drive twice since it was super snowy so I got a chicken cheesesteak as well! Prices were affordable and portions were huge so I had a ton of leftovers.
As for the winery mentioned above, there’s a ton to choose from in this area, but my personal favorites are Doukenie and Walsh Family Wine. I didn’t have time to go to both [insert sad face here] so I got a bundle of reds from Walsh.
For those of you looking to get away, I highly, HIGHLY recommend Magnolia Farm. I can pretty much guarantee that you’ll fall head over heels in love with the accommodations. This was my first airbnb experience, but it sure as hell won’t be my last. And if you’re apprehensive about COVID, they have super strict cleaning guidelines along with clorox wipes and hand sanitizer ALL over so you don’t have to worry.
If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to ask. I’m always happy to hear from you guys! A huge thanks to Leigh and Corey for having me and my adorable maltese pup. To see more from my adventures, click to check out my travel tab. Until next time, friends – stay safe!
