For those of you looking to get some R&R, Merriweather Lakehouse is an absolute must. Located in Columbia, Maryland, this gorgeous property overlooks Lake Kittamaqundi, and it’s only about a 25 minute drive from Baltimore and a 45 minute drive from DC (without traffic).
Merriweather Lakehouse Accomodations
I stayed in a balcony room on the 9th floor, and it was the epitome of comfort. Although there was much to love, the best part for me was waking up to a gorgeous sunrise overlooking the lake. Additionally, there was free wifi, a keurig (a serious must for me since I can’t function without caffeine), and C.O. Bigelow Lavender-Peppermint bath products.
Also, Merriweather Lakehouse is pet-friendly (with a $100 pet cleaning fee) so your floof can come along as well! The team here did such a wonderful job welcoming us – they had a dog bed + treats waiting for her, and as you can see from her expression, she was thrilled. Your furbaby’s welcome to accompany you everywhere with the exception of lāk, their on-site restaurant.
Other Noteworthy Amenities
If you follow me on Instagram stories, you know I’m on a big health kick so I obviously have to mention their gym. Their fitness center is very spacious, and it’s equipped with Peloton bikes, various cardio machines, all kinds of weights along with ice water, snacks and magazines. If you prefer to get your sweat on outside, you’re in luck because there are trails right by the hotel. Like literally as soon as you step out the door.
Dining Options
I can’t even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed eating at lāk. What an absolute treat. Dinner there was sublime, and everything from on point from food to service. We stayed at ML during restaurant week so my mom, and I got to enjoy an exquisite 3-course prix-fixe. We loved everything we got, and we will 200% be back for another meal soon.
Everything at lāk is made from scratch, and they offer fresh, seasonal dishes that satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like any of the dishes we got are currently available on their regular menu, but if this food’s on par with what we got, you’re in for a real treat.
As for breakfast, I really enjoyed dining at Osprey Cafe. Brian Holland, their incredibly talented pastry chef, offers freshly baked goods along with Lavazza coffee so expect to start your morning with something truly delicious. My mom and I shared a cinnamon roll and almond croissant, and no joke, his almond croissant was one of the best we’ve ever had.
The Pearl Spa
Located a few steps along the Lake from Merriweather Lakehouse, The Pearl Spa’s a 27,000 sq foot oasis with a modern meditation room, several mindful movement studios, thermal healing waters, and a day spa.
I got to experience their Wellness Passport, and that included a class of my choice, access to THE healing waters, THE element experience, and THE great abyss. I ended up taking pilates (which I loved btw), but they had all kinds of classes available. Think hot yoga, barre, and water aerobics and oh so much more.
I was really intrigued by their healing waters – it’s supposed to “relieve pain, reduce stress and restore the body, mind + soul.” In addition to said waters, there were various “pools” available as well: one “regular” one, a therapeutic hot tub, and a cold plunge. There was also a eucalyptus steam room and a vitamin C rainforest shower which looked really fantastic.
The highlight of my Pearl Spa experience was THE great abyss. Super interesting. Super out there. Super fun AND relaxing (strangely enough). So this is how it works: you go into a dark room, and you lie on an interesting looking chair.
This chair’s not just any chair though – it vibrates in random places while you listen to VERY specific music that’s wired to confuse your brain. You hear random sounds and noises throughout, all the while being covered with a weighted blanket and heated eye mask. Sounds strange, but it’s actually a fabulous experience, and it’s supposed to be the equivalent of a full night’s rest. Highly recommend so make sure you go.
Alright friends, that’s a wrap for today! I hope you enjoyed reading all about my latest staycation, and as always, please let me know if you have any questions. One last thing before I go, I’d like to thank the Merriweather Lakehouse team for their incredible hospitality. What a trip!
This place is beautiful. I love the bedroom interior.
