I’m determined to be better about updating le blog so hold me to it, guys! I like posting these recaps so hopefully y’all enjoy reading them. I haven’t had a chance to shoot any new style content, BUT I do have fun adventures to share so I hope you’re excited! We’re tackling everything from new NOM Digital clients to augmented reality cocktails so let’s get to it.
Bistro Cacao: The Most Romantic Restaurant in DC?
Very, very excited to have signed them as a new client! They’ve been around for over a decade, but I still consider them to be a hidden gem of sorts. They offer delicious French cuisine in Cap Hill, and they’re honestly one of the prettiest, most romantic restaurants around.
Bistro Cacao’s a great option for those of you looking to impress for date night – definitely make sure to request the red room though. You’ll see why once you go! I had my first shoot here not too long ago, and I’m really excited to help them grow. It’s only been a few weeks, and they’ve already increased 100+ followers so I’m pumped.
My First Shoot at Dirty Habit
Located inside Kimpton Monaco DC, Dirty Habit’s a stunning restaurant that’s basically built for the ‘gram. I had a blast shooting their food + cocktails, and I’m beyond pumped that NOM Digital’s now managing their social media presence.
Something to look forward to: their courtyard’s reopening in March so definitely make sure to stop by. It’s a gorgeous space, and they have various fire pits in case it gets chilly. Dirty Habit’s another great spot for date night + GNO! Really though, I’m not kidding when I say everything is instagram-worthy. They even have a sparkling gold drink, lol. Yeah, like I said, made for the ‘gram.
Artechouse Augmented Cocktails + Rotating Sushi
TAA PR invited me to check out the new Artechouse exhibit + enjoy their augmented cocktails so I asked one of my blogger besties (@labellemel31) to join me. “Transient: Impermanent Paintings” was really cool, and it felt very much like my worlds were colliding. I was a classical pianist in my former life (ha) so I was experiencing all kinds of emotions.
“A duet of motorized piano and hyperreal projections combines human and technological elements through a system of unconventional generative algorithms.” Really cool and absolutely worth a visit. And the cocktails were fun, too! I can’t remember what my drink was called, but it was the only one with mezcal so just ask the bartender if you want to try it.
And they’re called augmented reality cocktails because you can use their app to see really dope 3D effects, like in the image below. Pretty cool, right? Afterwards, Mel wanted to check out this rotating sushi bar in Chinatown so we drove over. It’s called Kura, and it was….ok.
I guess it was a fun experience, but I wasn’t particularly thrilled with the food TBH. I can also be really picky though so go and try it yourself if you’re interested. Everything’s $3.15, and you pay by plate at the end of your meal. I got 2 cooked rolls because I was skeptical, but Mel said she really enjoyed her sushi and she’d be back! If you end up going, make sure to leave a comment and let me know what your experience was like.
Alexandria, VA Fun
I don’t know what it is about Alexandria, but it always feels so far, far away. Traffic’s usually (especially) crazy so I always make sure to schedule 2-3 things in the area so it’s worth the drive.
I started the day at Bread and Water, and enjoyed a ridiculously delicious chicken and waffles cupcake before meeting my dear friend Rose Collins at For Five. They invited me in to try 3 of their new menu offerings, and we enjoyed said dishes while catching up.
- Croque Madame: smoked ham, gruyere cheese, poached egg, dijon mustard, bechamel sauce, sourdough bread
- Steak + Eggs Breakfast Sandwich: jicama, arugula, skirt steak, fried egg, parmesan pumpkin pesto, brioche
- B.L.A.T Sandwich: maple glazed thick cut bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato, basil mayo, brioche
The best dish by far was the BLAT sandwich – the others were just fine. Their food’s always pretty solid though – their Korean chicken bao buns are pretty damn tasty, and I really want to try their street corn salad next time. Will update you guys the next time I go!
Anyways, I’m feeling a little meh right now so I’m going to log off, but thanks so much for tuning in friends! I hope you enjoyed my latest recap. For more, make sure to browse my adventures tab, and stay tuned for my NY post comin’ your way soon. Sending e-hugs your way!
All this food is so amazing!
