I’m officially obsessed with both Pescadeli and Butchers Alley. I named today’s post after the former because I enjoyed their cooked food more, but it’s a toss up between the two because I thought the market at Butcher’s Alley was superior. Luckily, you don’t have to choose because they’re literally right across the street from one another.
Located on 4960 Bethesda Avenue, Pescadeli’s been serving the area for over 40 years, and they have everything from fresh fish to prepped food! My manfriend and I recently got to try a slew of their offerings, and we were beyond impressed with (almost) everything we got.
Must try items include their fried shrimp (it’s OMG good and only $11.99), their Spanish tortilla (tbh I wasn’t crazy about this at first, but it grew on me), and their ham croquettes!
They’re apparently known for their paella, but you need to place your order an hour in advance. They had one pre-made, but it looked like it had been sitting there for a while so we passed. No worries though, it just means we’ll have to go back.
Their sister market, Butchers Alley, has all the wine, cheese, meat and charcuterie you could ever want. They also have incredible made-to-order sandwiches along with fresh pastas. My manfriend got their French Connection, and I treated myself to their jamon jamon panini.
Both were exquisite, and we’d absolutely go back again. I’m also really curious about their noodz. I’m a huge carboholic so pasta is my kryptonite. I hear amazing things about their lasagna so I’ll definitely get that the next time I’m there.
There was just something so charming about both markets. Everyone was super friendly and helpful, and all their food looked fresh and delicious. And I know it’s COVID, but I was low key touching everything because I legit wanted to buy everything. To be honest, I’m kind of glad I live far away because I’d spend so much money there. You’ll see what I mean when you go.
