Alright friends, it’s time for chapter 3 of quarantine adventures – click here for parts 1 and 2. Expect a lot of food stuffs today because my mom’s in town. I’ve been setting up shoot after shoot to keep us busy, and she’s been helping me devour all the noms which has been great for my diet. So, for today’s post, let’s kick things off with nom highlights you guys NEED to try!
Must Try Dessert Joints
My mom has a serious sweet tooth so we visited two dessert places together: District Doughnut and Sugar Defined. I’m no stranger to DD – I’ve been a fan for quite some time, and I go fairly frequently. Their creme bruleé doughnut is absolutely delicious so if you haven’t tried it yet, you definitely need to change that stat. They have locations all over the DMV, but my go-to spot’s in Georgetown.
I’ll forever love their funfetti, brown butter and vanilla bean creme bruleé (my usual go-tos) but they currently have some ridiculously tasty summer flavors available so take advantage. We got to try one of each, and the following filled doughies were standouts: their key lime pie, their peaches and cream, and their fluffernutter. For those of you interested, they’re also offering a chocolate old fashioned, but only on Wednesdays!
Now, Sugar Defined isn’t as famous, but it should be. It’s located in Fairfax, Virginia, and it’s run by self taught baker Chiyon Yoon. I’m doing a full feature on her soon (on Nomtastic Foods) so definitely make sure to keep an eye out. For those of you interested, Robby and I have been posting new content daily so head on over to get your drool on.
I was never a big fan of cupcakes… but then I tried Baked & Wired. They were easily the best I’ve ever had, that is until I tried Chiyon’s. Her lavender and dulce de leche flavors (on vanilla) were nothing short of spectacular. The cake was so moist, and the frosting was just the right amount of sweet.
If you’re not into floral notes, her lavender flavor may not be your cup of tea, but it’s so unique and delicious that I highly recommend giving it a shot. The dulce de leche’s just a solid option that everyone will love.
Other crazy delicious items include her brownies and brownie cookies. Holy mother of god, her brownie cookies are good. They’re easily some of the best cookies I’ve ever had, like in my entire life. It doesn’t matter whether you like sweets or not, I can 200% guarantee it’ll be love at first bite so make sure you get a dozen or so to share (you won’t want to share).
DIY Ice Cream Sandwiches
Quarantine sucks so I’m constantly looking for fun things to do at home. Enter Cream Cruiser. They’re currently selling $55 DIY ice cream sandwich kits, and I am all about it. I went with their customizable option because I wanted to choose my gelato flavors and toppings, but they also have a dope birthday kit available.
Expect rich, creamy deliciousness with two toppings – I got sprinkles and cookie dough – and 16 cookies (double chocolate and chocolate chip). Not big into sammies? Heat up your cookie for an epic gelato sundae.
Pool Shenanigans at my Cousin’s House
I haven’t seen my cousin in five-ever so I was really excited to visit her in NoVa. She has a beautiful backyard with a pool so my maltese pup had a field day running around. She even got to swim for the first time!
I was actually super proud of her because she wasn’t afraid of the water. She’s 9 so I didn’t want to just throw her in, but I hope to see her paddle around a little more skillfully. My mom and I had a blast playing with Kristy’s adorable son, and her husband made us Thai food (from scratch!!!!!) for dinner. Because who wouldn’t want to end their day with drunken fried rice and panang curry!
Wining and Dining Healthfully
Sooooo you all know I’m on a diet right now. I cut out alcohol completely, but I recently found a low-cal low-carb wine that actually tastes good. I know it’s shocking, but I truly mean it when I say FitVine’s Cab is really quite tasty. I’m partnering up with them for a paid collab soon so we’ll talk more about their brand then, but if you’re trying to eat clean but still treat yourself from time to time, definitely check them out.
Alright friends, that’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading highlights on my latest! Stay tuned for the next segment of quarantine adventures coming your way soon-ish. I have a lot of really cool stuff planned this week so I’m stoked to tackle things head on. Follow me via instagram stories for a sneak peek, but expect to see content from Anju, Your Only Friend, Little Miner Taco and more.
