If you follow me on instagram, you’ve probably already seen snaps from my latest staycation at the Thompson Washington DC. Located in the heart of Navy Yard, this sleek hotel has 200+ guest rooms and suites. The 11-story property oozes sophistication with its contemporary design elements and is located near The Yards Park with a gorgeous view of the river.
For this trip, I stayed in one of their junior suites. Everything about the space screamed luxurious, and I loved the contemporary layout. I was on the 10th floor so the view was great…and it also didn’t hurt that they had floor-to-ceiling windows! The king sized bed was really comfortable, and I was happy that they had blackout curtains because ya girl needs her beauty sleep.
Each suite has robes and slippers, a personal bar, a iron and ironing board, an in-room safe, google chromecast, individually-controlled heating and AC, and a Nespresso coffee maker. Upon check-in, I saw that they had a personalized message along with champagne, kettle corn and chocolate. Such a thoughtful touch – I definitely felt very much at home!
I also really appreciated how clean everything was. The room was spotless so they’re clearly very serious about COVID protocols. And can we just talk about this bathroom? I can’t even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed showering here. PS. I’m a sucker for scalding hot water + high water pressure.
After relaxing for a bit, I went downstairs to enjoy Aperitivo Hour at Maialino Mare. At least 5 of my industry friends reached out to tell me I was in for a treat so I was excited to dine and imbibe with my favorite human. They had a nice cocktail list so we kicked things off with their Americano (campari, sweet vermouth, soda) and Pomelia (tequila, blood orange, fennel, lime, olive oil, salt).
I was also starving so I ordered a few share plates. Standouts were the burrata e pomodora crostini (burrata, sundried tomatoes, focaccia) and suppli al telefono (crispy risotto, tomato and mozzarella).
The food hit the spot so I definitely want to come back for dinner service at some point! I hear incredible things about their pasta and fried artichokes so I’m pumped, friends.
Afterwards, Deke and I went to Albi for another round of drinks before heading to our dinner reservation at Cranes – read more about my dining experience by clicking here! Although we were stuffed, we made one final stop to Silver Lyan before ubering back the Thompson to cuddle and watch a movie.
It was the perfect night.
After a restful evening, I woke up bright and early to start the day. The concierge mentioned that they had complimentary coffee in the lobby starting at 6:30AM so I obviously had to take advantage.
I’m always hungry in the early morn so I was thrilled to discover that they had free pastries as well! What an amazing surprise. I got a croissant, banana bread and blueberry muffin and enjoyed it in their beautiful lobby with a pipin’ hot cup of coffee before working a bit and packing my things.
Checkout was a breeze, and I honestly couldn’t be more grateful to the staff for taking such good care of me. For those of you looking to visit DC or want to get your R&R on, definitely make sure to pay them a visit. I love the whole area, and there are so many amazing dining options nearby. Let me know if you need recs! I’m happy to share my thoughts with you guys.
