If you’ve been following me on instagram, you already know that I spent some time away at River Mountain. I can’t even begin to tell you guys how much I needed the R&R.
It’s been a crazy last few weeks, and I desperately needed to step back and take a breath. It’s wild that it’s already been 7 months since I first quarantined. I used to travel a ton, and it was such a joy. I miss making memories on the road, which is why this trip was so special.
Located in Everett, PA at 3600 Black Valley Road, this stunning resort was designed by an award-winning architecture firm in Baltimore with circadian rhythm in mind. Their cabins “align with the body’s natural rhythms — helping reduce stress, enhance creativity, and increase connection to the natural environment.”
Each cabin has patio seating on a shared deck, equipped with a small charcoal grill. There’s cornhole in the “backyard” along with a hammock strung up near the trees. Their private cabins are located further out on the property, but they provide complimentary baggage service from their free lot to your living space so that’s not an issue.
As you can see, their pods are stacked like fancy bunk beds. You have the option of getting a twin or a queen depending on what’s available, and each one has a mini-closet with secure lockable storage, dimmer lighting, electrical outlets and a privacy curtain. The top pods have a skylight, but the bottom pods are dog-friendly so each has its pros.
The interior is squeaky clean, and that means a lot coming from me because I’m borderline OCD – I say borderline, but let’s be real, I’m just OCD. They have a filtered water bottle filling station in each cabin, and there’s also a mini-fridge, microwave and Nespresso coffee maker. They also have shampoo, conditioner and body wash available in each shower along with fresh linens and towels.
And in case you were wondering why I shared the picture above, it’s a walkie talkie + two flashlights. Although they have lights on site, it gets super dark in the evenings so they come in handy. The walkie talkie’s for emergencies or if you need to communicate with any of the uber nice River Mountain peeps. As you can imagine, cell service isn’t ideal so you definitely want to carry this around with you, just in case!
With over 150 acres of land, there’s SO much to do at River Mountain. Do some yoga, take a hike, chill by their pond, go biking, make s’mores at one of their evening bonfires (they have 3 up and running each night), enjoy happy hour during sunset, the list goes on and on and on. Oh, did I mention they offer complimentary local craft beer? Yeah, they know how to treat guests right, lol.
Let’s take a quick look at the main area! The red barn pictured below is the 1860 Mennonite Barn aka their activity barn, and it’s open 24/7. Inside you’ll find a gorgeous lounge, a ping pong table and some cornhole.
Now, I don’t know if you know this about me, but I’m low key obsessed with ping pong. I used to play ALL the time in college, and not to toot my own horn, but I’m pretty decent. Can I add spin? Nope, but I have realllly fast reflexes so I can hold my own. Basically, I play with very little skill and pure reflex, but hey, it still gets the job done.
This is a shot of their 1807 historic log cabin aka their dining building. They generously offer free coffee in the morning, and this space is open pretty much 24/7 as well. It’s fully equipped with snacks and delicious microwavable meals, and I may or may not have had Annies mac & cheese two days in a row. But hey, glamping means splurging a little – am I right or am I right?
When I went, it was raining quite a bit so I didn’t get to explore as much as I would’ve liked, but I had a blast nonetheless. They have board games in each cabin so I ended up playing quite a bit of scrabble with my manfriend. That was probably the second time I’ve ever played so it was exceptionally fun. In fact, so much so that I ordered it on amazon during my ride back.
However, if weather permits, I highly recommend spending your time outdoors while you’re there. As mentioned, you have 150 acres to explore, and on top of on-site hiking trails, you have Tussey Mountain, the Chesapeake Bay watershed, the PA mid state trail and Buchanan state forest nearby.
Alright friends, that’s a wrap for my latest adventure! I hope you guys enjoyed reading all about River Mountain. If you’re looking to get away for a few days, I can’t recommend them enough. They’re currently operating at 50% capacity due to COVID, and they’re taking safety protocols very seriously so you can vacation with them without a care in the world. Check-in is 3-7PM daily and checkout is 11AM!
And for those of you looking to take your furbabies with you, a maximum of one dog is allowed per guest. They can’t exceed 80lbs, and there’s a $20/night cleaning fee. Your furbabies must sleep in your pod unless you’re renting a full private cabin, and they need to be leashed when in cabins and around other guests!
