I’ve been spending way too much time out in the sun, which means I’ve been going out of my way to take extra good care of my mane. This insane heat makes my hair look all kinds of crazy, which is why I’m relying on a slew of products to keep me in check. Here are 8 must-haves you need in your life!
1-3. Redken Frizz Dismiss Shampoo, Conditioner and Mask.
I’m lumping these 3 items together because they’re from the same product line, but I’m going to review them one by one in order. This sulfate-free shampoo fights frizz and enhances shine. My hair has never felt smoother, and it doesn’t tangle nearly as much. The product has a thick consistency, and it lathers really well so a little goes a long way.
Like the shampoo, this conditioner is sodium chloride-free and contains sustainably sourced Babassu Oil to tame frizz. This oil is a type of vegetable oil, and it’s extracted from seeds of the babassu palm. This tree grows in the Amazon, and it’s used in all kinds of products like food, cleaners, and other beauty products. It’s very similar to coconut oil, and it works wonders on your hair. Use it in conjunction with the shampoo for best results.
I use the shampoo + conditioner combo every 2 days, and I make sure to incorporate their mask into my routine once a week. This product provides intense smoothing treatment for all hair types, and it nourishes, softens and hydrates. I don’t have unruly hair by any means, but my frizz can get pretty out of control because it’s a weird mix of wavy and straight. This helps me manage my mane on the regular though! After washing my hair, I towel dry it and apply a nickel sized amount – less if you have short hair – to the lower half of my strands. I leave it in for 10-15 minutes and then rinse it out with cold water.
4. Wet Brush Detangling
I don’t usually brush my hair straight out of the shower because I don’t want to damage my strands, but I feel at ease using this on my mane. It’s really gentle, and it does a great job detangling both wet and dry hair. Whether your mane’s thick, curly or straight, this will get the job done efficiently with it’s intelliflex bristles, and I promise you’ll feel zero pain. This is coming from someone who has long hair that gets tangled beyond repair. This brush worked when I truly believed I had to just cut sections off so take my word and get this. Also, remember to brush your hair before you bathe to loosen dirt and whatnot. You’ll get a much more thorough wash!
5. AG Hair Tousled Texture Spray
This is one of my favorite hair sprays, and it’s perfect for hot weather because it’s lightweight yet powerful. It contains AG’s Sea Complex which is an infusion of three texturizing seaweed extracts plus anti-aging seaberry oil. These ingredients create an effortlessly stylish look that controls frizz and flyways.
It works especially well with 2nd day hair – simply scrunch your mane to get beach-like waves with shine and hold that’ll last you hours, if not the entire day. I also use it after I finish heat styling. Whether I want curls or a straighter look, this keeps everything in place and gives me the volume and texture I need.
6. AG Hair BB Cream
This multi-functional hair primer does so much it’s hard to fit into one short blurb. Although it says colour care on the package, it’s great for all hair types. It fills uneven hair cuticles, thickens hair, protects against UVA/UVB rays, is humidity-resistant and more.
It says to use a dime sized amount on the instructions, but that’s way too much product in my opinion. A pea sized amount is more than enough, and you’ll really see a difference when you incorporate it into your routine. It’s a non-negotiable must when I straighten my hair.
7. Cibu Shine Squad Oil
If you’re not using argan oil yet, you need to update your beauty regimen stat. I’ve been using this specific product for years, and it’s done wonders for my hair.
Argan oil’s rich in vitamins, essential fatty acids and antioxidants so it helps with softening and hydrating. It also increases elasticity and shine! I use this on anytime I need a pick-me-up, and it’s a staple all year round. You can find argan oil infused products in various forms, but I prefer oil because it penetrates deep into the strands. I apply it on my tips when my hair’s wet, and I can see a noticeable difference in the AM.
