I can’t even begin to tell you guys how much I loved El Cielo. I truly enjoyed the experience…and “the experience” is in quotes because that’s what they call it there. I was blown away, and it was honestly one of the most memorable meals I’ve had.
I walked in, unsure of what to expect. I’d heard some not-so-great things, but I personally couldn’t recommend it more. It was such a fun evening, and the food was unbelievable. Really.
There wasn’t a single course I didn’t love, and trust me when I say there was A LOT! Every bite was so exciting, at least to me. It was absolutely worth the splurge, and I’m definitely gonna go back when they change their menu.
The presentation is crazy amazing. A yuca bread tree? Dessert that you lick off a plate??? A chocolate hand “wash” that you eat? WHAT?!?!?!?!? Yeah, I felt like a kid sitting in their dining room, and I was excited to see what was next, even after seeing tons of pics on instagram. So whether it’s a special occasion or not, book a table to treat yourself to a truly magical evening.
I have pics from ALMOST every course so here goes. I hope you’re in the mood for an epic photo dump, lol.
passion fruit mistela
mandarin – aguardiente – vermouth
corn buñuelo
uni donut
crab empanadas
compresso
blood sausage – blue cheese – green apple
chocotherapy – this is the course I told you about! They bring out this AMAZING chocolate sauce and pour it all over your hands. You rub them together and then lick ’em off before getting a nice rinse from the service staff.
I know some of y’all aren’t crazy about that prospect, but give it a go. I’m kind of an OCD germaphobe so I didn’t think I would enjoy this, but it was delightful. Just make sure you wash your hands before you start eating, lol. Anddddd obviously I didn’t get a pic of this because I had my hands full.
tree of life
pumpkin – chayote squash – maple syrup
scallops – hearts of palm – flowers
seafood – coconut – lime
yuca gnocchi
salt crusted rockfish
duck – barley – mango – calamansi
lamb – artichoke – onion
lick me!
columbian diversity
columbian emerald // yellow butterfly // coffee field
And FYI, these are obviously not my best pics but I posted everything I took anyways because I wanted you to see what every dish looked like. The full experience is $228 per person, and it’s actually reasonable for all the food you get. I was stuffed about course like 16 or so but kept eating because it was all so, SO delicious.
El Cielo’s located in La Cosecha at Union Market. Parking’s a nightmare so I recommend ubering or going on a super slow evening. It often takes me more than an hour to find a spot so consider yourself warned. A lot of people talk shit about this place which confuses me, but food is art and art is subjective so whatever goes. Personally, it makes so much sense to me that they got a star. I’m actually surprised they didn’t get two, but what do I know, lol!
I haven’t booked my next Michelin star restaurant yet, but I have my eye on Xiquet. I’m working through the star + bib list so I’ll make sure to keep you posted. For more on food, click here! Looking so delicious!
